SECTION 4: Operation of Motor Vehicles
4-1: All State of Tennessee laws, City of Murfreesboro ordinances, and University regulations pertaining to motor vehicles are applicable 24 hours a day, unless otherwise noted.
4-2: Speed limits are posted throughout the campus. All speed limits are radar enforced.
4-3: Passing on campus is prohibited.
4-4: All vehicles must come to a complete stop at intersections where a stop sign (either mounted on a post or painted on the street surface) is displayed (TCA 55-8-149).
4-5: Motorists are to yield the right-of-way to all pedestrians in a cross walk (TCA 55-8-134) (MCC32-8).
4-6: Upon the immediate approachment of an authorized emergency vehicle making use of audible and visual signals, or a police vehicle properly and lawfully making use of an audible signal only, the drivers of all other vehicles shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to, the right hand edge or curb of any intersection and shall stop and remain in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer (TCA 55-8-132).
4-7: All persons riding motorcycles, either as operator or passenger, must wear a helmet of the type approved by the Commissioner of Safety for the State of Tennessee (TCA 55-9-302).
4-8: All vehicles must come to a complete stop for a school bus loading or unloading children (TCA 59-851).
4-9: Littering from a vehicle (as well as littering in general) is prohibited and subject to a fine.
4-10: Any person who drives in willful and wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving (TCA 55-10-205).
4-11: The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any official traffic-control device unless otherwise directed by a traffic or police officer (TCA 55-8-109).
4-12: U-turns are prohibited on the campus.
4-13: Loud mufflers, cut-outs, and any other noise-making devices attached to or located within or on any vehicle are prohibited.
4-14: Excessive loud playing of radios and stereos in vehicles is prohibited. The playing shall be deemed excessively loud if it is disturbing the academic environment of the campus.
